Chart 1: Identified Suspects by Race/Ethnicity
Solved homicide cases with identified suspects (excludes police-involved). 20 solved cases; 15 with confirmed suspect race, 5 unknown.
Note: Black suspects account for 10 of 15 racially identified suspects (66.7%). Hispanic suspects account for 3 (20%), White suspects 2 (13.3%). Five solved cases have suspects whose race was not released or confirmed (Franco juveniles, Purcell, Smith, Tooley, Moore).
Chart 2: Victims by Race/Ethnicity
All 30 victims documented in 2024
Note: Black victims represent 63.3% of all fatalities (19 of 30). White victims account for 5 (16.7%), Hispanic victims 4 (13.3%). Two victims classified as Unknown race: Jazlynn Johnson (race not confirmed in sources) and Sasha Williams (self-identified as multiracial per HRC and best friend; specific racial components unconfirmed).
Chart 3: Suspect → Victim Race Pairings (Specific)
Each bar = one specific pairing (e.g. "Black suspect → Black victim"). Green = intraracial, Red = interracial. Only pairings with 1+ cases shown. 14 solved cases with identified suspect race; 13 with known race for both suspect and victim, 1 with unknown victim race.
Finding: Intraracial violence dominates: 9 of 13 pairings with known race for both parties (69.2%) are same-race. Black-on-Black violence accounts for 6 cases (46.2% of known-race pairings). Interracial pairings include Black→Hispanic (2), Black→White (1), Hispanic→Black (1). One additional pairing (Black→Unknown) excluded from intraracial calculation.
Chart 4: Solved vs. Unsolved by Victim Race
Racial disparity in case resolution (all 30 homicides)
Key disparity: Black victims have a 52.6% solve rate (10 of 19), while White victims have a 100% solve rate (5 of 5) and Hispanic victims have a 75% solve rate (3 of 4). Both Unknown-race victims' cases are solved. The disparity in case resolution mirrors national trends.
Chart 5: Bias Motive Coding
All 30 victims coded by bias motive evidence
Methodology: Confirmed = hate crime charges or explicit LE statement. Suspected = evidence of animus, no charge. No Evidence = documented alternative motive. Unknown = insufficient info. No cases received hate crime charges in 2024. Four cases have suspected bias: Kitty Monroe (family suspects anti-trans targeting), Tayy Dior Thomas (boyfriend hiding trans relationship), Monique Brooks (passenger told investigators victim was targeted for being transgender), and Kassim Omar (co-perpetrator reportedly made statements about "gay stuff" with victim; family says Omar was targeted for being transgender).
Chart 6: Bias Motive by Suspect Race
Solved cases only — suspects with KNOWN race (15 cases). No "unknown race" category.
Note: Among Black suspects, 2 cases coded Suspected (Washington→Thomas, Abdullahi→Omar), 3 No Evidence, 5 Unknown. All White and Hispanic suspects' cases coded No Evidence or Unknown. AANHPI category removed (Yuhashi released without charges).
